About Our Business

In 1988 Frances and her husband Stefan, along with their two Rottweilers and Tana, relocated to Maine from California. Frances began working at Sukee Kennels, a German Shepard breeder, located in Warren, Maine. Because Sukee Kennels also offers all-breed obedience training, Frances was able to gain knowledge with a variety of breeds. Her experience training included, but was not limited to, obedience, tracking, canine drug detection, testing and evaluating litters, and puppy socialization.

In December of 1992 Frances and Stefan purchased their first Labrador retriever, Sprig. Stefan had wanted a Labrador retriever for a family companion and a hunting dog. Frances quickly fell in love with the breed, it was then she decided to raise and train Labrador Retrievers. Sprig was trained as a hunting and obedience dog. Stefan is an avid duck hunter, and never goes hunting without one of the dogs.

Sprig’s daughter, Jenny is a very special dog, she is extremely trainable, very loyal, and Frances’ best friend. It is vary rare to see Frances without Jenny by her side.

Puddleduck Retrievers offers black, yellow, and chocolate, all-purpose Labradors. These dogs excel as obedience, hunting, and therapy dogs. They do extremely well at drug detection and breed shows, but most importantly they are wonderful family companions.

Because of the great pride taken in her breeding program, the dog must pass all required health clearances, be up-to-date on all vaccines, and have no less than excellent temperament before it is bred.

What you can expect from Puddleduck Retrievers. You will find Frances to be very helpful in answering any questions you may have. If she does not have a puppy available, she will gladly refer you to another reputable breeder. There will also be many questions for you! Frances feels it is very important to find out exactly what you are looking for in a puppy, this way she can place you with the perfect puppy to fit your needs. At 7 weeks the puppies are temperament tested, and evaluated. At this time a licensed veterinarian will also examine them. Because the puppies are so well cared for and socialized, they are very confident, alert and extremely healthy. Frances’ son Andrew spends a great deal of time with the puppies as they are growing up. Because of the love Frances has for her dogs, she will only sell a puppy whose main purpose is to be a beloved family companion.
